Labour Candidate Joins Remembrance Sunday Ceremony in Ruthin

Donna Hutton, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Clwyd West constituency, joined representatives of the Armed Forces, community organisations and the public at Ruthin’s Remembrance Sunday ceremony on Sunday (8th November 2009).

Ms Hutton said:

“The ceremony in Ruthin was extremely touching, with the fallen of both World Wars and more recent conflicts such as Afghanistan being honoured.

"What was dispiriting earlier in the day was some broadcasters insisting on discussing our prospects of winning in Afghanistan. That was completely inappropriate on Remembrance Sunday - it was almost as if they were suggesting the loss of young lives on our behalf has been worthless.

"But the ceremony in Ruthin, as no doubt elsewhere, was observed with the proper respect due to the men and women who have laid down their lives for our sake. It was also a moment to reflect upon the lives risked daily to protect us all.”
