TORIES STOLE OUR CHILDREN’S MILK – NOW THEY’RE COMING AFTER THE WHOLE BREAKFAST
LOCAL LABOUR CANDIDATE Donna Hutton today set out the choice facing families in Colwyn Bay ahead of the General Election.
“Labour’s support for families, like the child trust fund, tax credits, free breakfasts and free swimming will all face cuts if the Tories get into power – cuts that show the Tories are still the same old unfair and nasty party”.
Speaking about the choice facing families in places like Abergele, Colwyn Bay and Ruthin, Ms Hutton said,
“Labour is the party that is on the side of hard working families, but all the support our policies offer will come under threat if the Tories get into power. Labour achievements at Westminster, like child tax credits and Labour achievements in Wales, like the free school breakfasts, will be cut by the Tories.
“Thatcher snatched the milk, now Cameron and co are coming for the whole breakfast!”
Labour activists in Colwyn Bay are visiting family homes, highlighting the Tory policy to cut free breakfasts in primary schools and cut tax credits for many working people.
Ms Hutton continued,
“In the opening days of the General Election campaign, we have heard a lot of sound and fury about the economy – and whilst the £12billion black hole in the Tory plans is a huge issue for their credibility in Wales – people in Colwyn Bay want to know how all this will affect their everyday lives.
“That is why, today, I wanted to spell out in very clear terms what the choice is for local families. The choice is a simple one.
- “Labour will increase the tax credit, the Tories want to cut it.
- “Labour will keep the free breakfast scheme for primary schools, the Tories want it cut.
- “Labour will keep the Child Trust Fund – giving more money to the children who need it most, and the Tories will cut it.
- “Labour will tax high earners more, so we can afford to support families through tough times, but the Tories would offer a tax break to the wealthiest people in Britain.
“When you boil this election down to a choice for your family, it is clear that Labour is the party in tune with people’s everyday lives and the Tories are still totally out of touch with the real world.”
